- This lead design came about as a result of what Danny Fairbrass observed during the filming of Underwater Part Four
- He wanted to create the most condensed shape possible, so that the fish moved the minimum possible distance before feeling the full weight of the lead
- The most condensed shape is actually a ball, but a lead of this shape isn’t practical for carp fishing as it rolls and is prone to tangles
- So Danny made the sides square and gave the back end of the lead a taper to help prevent the hook link tangling around it
- Thus the Square Pear lead was born
